Linksys WRT610N Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router

Then I home I have both the DIR 855 that the WRT610N, I did several tests and I can tell you what emerges.

DIR 855: Despite a few bugs in the firmware (eg non-operating section shareport usb port forwarding, both resolved in the latest version but not in WW 1.12EU do not know if the 1.13 had resolved), the router, especially in your LAN the best that we can be.

The QoS is working well but sometimes my brother complains about lag in online games with wireless clients connected to the DAP 1353, otherwise it is OK p2p, voip is that streaming video from NAS.

Unfortunately, the sins of this router is wireless, no point in pretending, covering 2.4 GHz is the same (with the two gangs active even less ...) to the legendary 655, while the 5GHz is almost nonexistent. In addition, the DWA 160 is not the maximum potential benefit of the Dual Band (overheats often causing disconnections and sometimes undocked even 300 mbps full, rather nn understand why when I use p2p as low as at 15-30 mbps and navigation is very slow ... much better dwa 643 and 645, but are not dualband unfortunately).

Linksys WRT610N with firmware: So in performance LAN router is less all'855 cmq but on the whole satisfactory, qos does not work very well (especially for VoIP and streaming video) and there is the possibility of creating a few rules tcp / udp (also due to a bug, you can only open doors and not the individual port ranges, although this option is available). In exchange, the wireless router level behaves much better than the DIR 855, having a 2.4 Ghz coverage far superior to rival and even something more 5GHz (no miracle, just a notch more). It 'clear that in my case, based on my personal needs, I prefer the 855 to 610N with official firmware.

WRT610N with DD WRT firmware: In this case, the 610N beats the 855 on all fronts. Section qos, upnp and port forwarding-class (certainly that of the 655/855 was very good, but cmq can not compete with the DD WRT see to believe ...). Needless to say that all problems are solved at the level of QoS that works very well not only better but also dell'855 (known improvements especially in online play via wireless and streaming video, P2P and VoIP are also OK). Wireless coverage is even higher than the official Linksys firmware (which was itself already higher than dell'855 ).... ergo I proceeded to throw away the repeater DAP 1353.

The only downside for now (the firmware is still in beta) is that using the two bands simultaneously, the router randomly reset every couple of hours ... but the thing will be resolved soon (probably have already done the last firmware release today ... I have to inform) and at that point, I'm sorry for Biby, the 610N will have no rivals in the Dual Band.

Consider that at the hardware level, the WRT is not for nothing less than the DIR (anzi. ..), the problem is that the Linksys firmware is still immature (more than DLink) to utilize their full potential, but fortunately there is DD WRT for WRT610N

P.S. I have not yet had the opportunity to experience the dual band USB Adapter Linksys (WUSB600N), but the chip is the same as the DWA 160 Rev B (Ralink RT 2870) ... then I suppose is the same rubbish. In any case I am informed and believe that the U.S. division of Linksys (http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/products/Adapters) is currently the only one to sell dual band N adapter is PCMCIA (WPC600N model name ) to ExpressCard (WEC600N model name)!

Obviously in Italy are not yet sold officially but you can find on the bay and I must say that I'm already doing a little thought, will certainly be much better than the USB adapters that I personally hate and think less power-hungry.
